Initial Consultation

During this initial 15-20 minute conversation, we will talk about how I might help you and answer any questions you might have. This will help you to find out if you would like to work with me. If you decide to work with me, we will set up our next meeting. However, there is no obligation or commitment from this initial consultation and I will not pressure you to set up another appointment. You are in control of whether you decide to work with me further, and I will not ask you to disclose anything you do not wish to. Also, I will not share anything about you with anyone else–all information is completely confidential. After our initial consultation, we can meet in person if you are able to travel to one of my offices (located in Westbrook and Portland, Maine) or over the phone if you live at a distance or can not travel.

To set up an initial phone consultation at no charge, call me at 207-773-1143, email me at

Articles/ Newsletter Archive

On this page, you will find articles with strategies, approaches, and inspiration for coping with cancer and other life transitions and challenges. I would love to hear how these pieces of information have helped you, so please email me with comments or questions, and other topics you would like to see addressed.

Inspirational Quotes

On this page is a growing collection of my favorites that relate to coping with cancer and life challenges in general. For me, quotes serve as reminders about what I have learned or what I know to be true. I have a wall in my office covered with quotes. Whenever I come across something in a book or article or even something someone says that resonates with me and I want to remember it, I post it on my wall. When I am having a hard day, I look up and read one. Whatever I read always seems to be something I need to be reminded of.

Book Recommendations

On this page you will find a growing collection of my favorite non-fiction books that can help to reduce unnecessary suffering during the cancer journey or other life transitions. Some of these books were extremely inspirational to me and I continue to re-read and refer back to them on a regular basis.

Helpful Links

On this page you will find links to some websites that many have found to be helpful in coping with cancer. I invite you to explore them for yourself.

Coping Checklists

You can find out how you’re coping by talking to a professional or by taking the Coping Checklist here. Persistent sadness, hopelessness, feelings of worthlessness, anger, worry, or withdrawal can be signs of depression or anxiety. Depression or severe anxiety can make coping with cancer much harder than it already is. Sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference between normal feelings associated with cancer, or symptoms caused by medications and treatment, and depression or severe anxiety. Therefore it is important to talk to a professional if you are experiencing any symptoms. Once your doctor or counselor diagnoses depression or anxiety, it can be treated successfully. Medications and counseling can often work hand in hand to treat depression or anxiety.

To take a look at the symptoms and get a better idea about whether or not you might be experiencing depression or severe anxiety, take the Depression Checklist or the Anxiety Checklist here.
